Assistant Lawyer
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in London to assist with the appointment of an Assistant Lawyer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at client’s discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £22.83 - £29.42 per hour
Responsibilities:
1. To provide sound and researched advice to strategic and senior officers to facilitate making informed decisions as well as the Enforcement Manager, Senior Enforcement Officer, and other Enforcement Officers.
2. Undertaking research into legal questions arising from the work of the Division, and, if appropriate, briefing Counsel and/or Consultants and Expert Witnesses and instructing as and when necessary.
3. Responsible for negotiating and concluding contractual arrangements and agreements with leaseholders, freeholders, solicitors, barristers, and external agencies regarding the payment of service charges.
4. To act at all times within the framework of legislation appropriate to leasehold management and debt collection, and the Council's policies and procedures relating to service charge collection.
5. Assisting the Enforcement Manager and the Senior Enforcement Officer in preparing and conducting cases involving debt recovery on behalf of Tenant Management Organisations.
6. Providing advice to Tenant Management Organisations to ensure efficient debt recovery.
Experience:
1. Substantial experience of working in a mixed tenure environment on a large residential portfolio and implementing legislation relevant to leasehold management.
2. Experience of and ability to represent the Council at First-Tier Tribunal and County Court.
3. Experience of and ability to prepare all relevant paperwork for First-Tier Tribunals and County Court.
4. Experience of and ability to make decisions.
5. Experience of and ability to research topics, obtain information, and coordinate and write procedures, reports, etc.
6. Experience of and ability to work on own initiative and be self-motivated and committed to providing a service to customers.
7. Experience of using a wide range of computer packages.
