Job Purpose:
To maintain a high standard of nursing care within the unit. Ensure that the environment provides an atmosphere, which supports the positive development of the patient’s behaviour and mental state. To supervise and support care staff, ensuring effective professional leadership.
Main Tasks:
1. As directed by the Ward Manager / Hospital Director, contribute to the effective and efficient day to day leadership and management of the service.
2. Contribute to the achievement of the Company aims, objectives and initiatives in a positive and cohesive manner.
3. Uphold and encourage in others the required regulatory and professional standard, as specified.
4. Act in a manner commensurate with expected professional conduct, legislation and codes of practice.
5. Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures relating to the service.
6. Ensure, through direct observation and supervision of others, full compliance with relevant regulatory and professional standards.
7. Contribute to the achievement of positive outcomes, in a timely manner, in response to any requirements generated by regulatory bodies or internal quality assurance processes.
8. Contribute to the delivery of a high quality service, and promoting a positive culture.
9. Practice in accordance with the evidence base and reflect standards of best practice.
10. Promote a culture of change, and innovation, with the aim of improving the quality of care.
11. Promoting and maintaining standards to deliver a safe, sound and supportive environment for service users.
12. As a named nurse, take responsibility for the application of the person centred care planning process. Ensure assessments are completed in a timely and inclusive way, promoting service user and family involvement.
13. Sustaining an environment that promotes positive behavioural support and meaningful activities.
14. To provide effective clinical leadership, coaching and direct supervision to the staff team, on shift.
15. Communications, including dissemination of corporate communications, staff meetings etc.
16. Clinical Supervision, Appraisal and Performance Management.
17. Training.
18. Staff development (including Continuing Professional Development).
19. Administration, information and reports relating to the service are provided to relevant parties in an accurate and timely fashion.
20. Medication management.
21. As a named nurse coordinate, for individual service users, the MDT/CPA processes.
22. Contribute to the effective deployment of staff in appropriate numbers, skill mix and competencies, on shift.
23. Contribute to the effective, efficient and management of the rota, ensuring they reflect the needs of the service users.
24. Contribute to the preceptorship of newly qualified nurses and the appraisal and clinical supervision of nurses, support workers and student nurses.
25. Contribute to the management and monitoring of records and systems, in accordance with company policy.
26. Ensure appropriate use of company assets within the service, e.g. company vehicles, mobile phones, computer software etc., in accordance with company policy and procedures.
27. Proactively promote partnership working with other relevant others including: Regulators, Families and friends of service users, Any stakeholder involved in the provision of our services.
28. As named nurse, contribute to the admissions, moving on plans and discharge processes within the service.
29. Participate in Unit meetings, as required, and make contributions as a member of the unit team, undertaking specific projects where appropriate.
30. Maintain personal knowledge and development in relation to the responsibilities carried for the service, including participation in designated company training programmes and wider training where required.
31. Ensure positive representation of the services, through the professional and welcoming approach of staff.
32. To assume delegated responsibilities of the Clinical Lead in their absence, commensurate with experience.
33. To effectively manage and provide information as required by other departments (Finance, Governance, Marketing, Property, HR, training etc.) in an accurate and timely manner.
34. Participate in investigations and inquiries as required.
35. Observe the principles of the Data Protection Act and maintain confidentiality of information and data relating to individuals within our care, our staff, our service and our Company.
General:
