Job Title: Apprentice Water Network Inspector
Location: The base location for this role is Otterbourne but this role will require you to travel across the Hampshire area.
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Salary: £19,160 per annum
Timelines: The application deadline is Sunday 4th May and all candidates will have received an update on their application by Friday 16th May. We will be holding assessment centres in June and the successful candidates will commence their role in September 2025.
Job Overview
Southern Water are currently looking for several Apprentice Water Network Inspectors to join our team in Hampshire!
Our Water Network Inspectors are at the frontline of our organisation, ensuring that Customers are supported and receive an excellent service while we complete works. Water Network Inspectors play a vital role in ensuring the safe, effective and efficient management and operation of the water distribution network to minimise the risk of bursts and discolouration during emergencies and planned work.
As an Apprentice Water Network Inspector, duties that you’ll undertake with the full support of a dedicated Mentor and Line Manager can include but aren’t limited to:
* Providing a courteous and efficient service to all customers ranging from domestic users to large industrial companies.
* Plan, organise and execute shutdowns to the water network system so that disruption to the customer is minimised and where possible the supply is maintained.
* Acting as key liaison with Network Management Co-ordinators to ensure latest position on network status is documented and understood in respect to property minutes target.
* Acting as 1st point of contact during emergencies both in and out of hours; determine course of action to be taken escalating where necessary.
* Provide and manage alternative water supplies in the event of interruptions to supply or during an emergency.
* Work with our water network control team and be aware of ongoing changes in the network system following installation of District Meters & Pressure Reducing Valves.
* Ensure that the integrity of both Reservoir Zones and District Metered areas are maintained at all times (valve podding), and the processing of all change notes is up-to-date.
* Carry out Trunk Main inspections, to ensure integrity of the distribution system and to identify any deficiencies associated with these mains.
Training Overview
This programme will support you in developing the technical knowledge required to undertake duties as a Water Network Inspector and by completion of the programme you will have a thorough understanding of the specific context at Southern Water. At the end of your programme you will gain a Level 3 BTEC NVQ as a Water Industry Network Technician.

Progression
Once qualified, our Water Network Inspectors are well aligned to develop careers as a Technical Coordinator, Water Network Performance Manager or Technician.

About You
The successful candidate will ideally have the following:
* GCSE Maths and English Grade 4/C or above.
* A good communicator, collaborator and team player
* Keen to learn and operate complex processes with high quality controls.
* Excellent attention to detail
Package
This role will be full time Monday to Friday. You will predominantly be site-based and will also attend classroom-based learning sessions 1 day per week.
