An opportunity has arisen to work at an Ofsted Outstanding sixth form college. Wyke Sixth Form College is recognised for its educational excellence, placed in the top 5% for progress at A level and ranked the second highest provider of students to Oxbridge in the Yorkshire and Humber region. The college’s reputation attracts students from across Kingston-upon-Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Wyke has grown significantly over the last decade, accommodating 2400 exclusively level three students on a modern £30M university-style campus. At Wyke, we put the student first and all decisions centre around staff working together to meet their best interests. 97% of our current teachers and support staff recommend working here and 98% feel they have been supported to develop in the last year. Come and join the amazing learning culture that creates “The Wyke Experience”.
We require a practical and hard-working Science Technician to join the friendly and highly-regarded Science Faculty. The post-holder will work with the Senior and other Science Technician to provide a responsive support service to the teaching staff in running practical experiments with their students. Duties will involve setting up practical experiments, ordering and organising stock, cleaning and tidying equipment and ensuring health and safety regulations are adhered to.
The successful candidate will have relevant experience as a science technician and/or using scientific equipment themselves. They will be a practical problem solver, well-organised and able to work in collaboration with both the Technician and Teaching Teams. A flexible approach and the desire to work with young people are also important.
We offer a forward-thinking, welcoming college with supportive management and a modern environment. Benefits include a strong programme of staff development and membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme. We are lucky to work with great students who are here to learn and 97% of staff said they would recommend the College as a good place to work in the Autumn 2024 Staff Pulse Survey. We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and we welcome applications from a diverse range of applicants. We would love our staff ethnicity and cultural profile to closely match the student population we serve.
The College takes safeguarding extremely seriously and a full range of pre-employment checks as set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education including a satisfactory enhanced DBS with barred list check and an online search will be required for this post. All posts at the College are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and it is an offence for those barred from working with children to even apply for a role at the College.
