An opportunity has arisen for an HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to provide Maternity Cover support to the Treatment Planning aspects of the Radiotherapy Physics Service at Singleton Hospital.
This is a fixed term contract expected to last 40 weeks and will focus on supporting the clinical workload of the section, including treatment plan checking, adaptive planning and plan verification.
Appointment at a lower band will be considered for candidates who are currently working towards registration (STP, Route 2, Equivalence).
The service supports a range of state-of-the-art radiotherapy equipment that includes four Elekta linear accelerators (including SGRT and FFF capability), Philips wide-bore CT-scanner, Pinnacle and Monaco treatment planning systems utilising image fusion (ProSoma), auto segmentation and adaptive techniques (Mirada), and a well-developed oncology information management system (Mosaiq), all deployed in a Citrix environment to provide electronic access across the South-West Wales region.
Main duties of the job
The main role of this post is to provide advanced support to all aspects of the clinical work of the Radiotherapy Physics Service and undertake specialist clinical and scientific activities in support of the provision of high-quality, advanced radiotherapy treatments. The post holder will be expected to provide routine cover for radiotherapy plan checking, plan adaptation according to local protocols and plan verification.
The post will provide the holder with opportunities to develop expertise in treatment plan checking across a range of treatment sites and techniques.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge Essential
* First or Second-Class Honours Degree in Physics or closely related subject
* Accredited MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent
* Registration as a Clinical Scientist (with HCPC)
Desirable
* Working towards or holding a PhD by research or equivalent experience
* Working towards eligibility for Chartered Physicist or Chartered Scientist status.
Experience Essential
* Relevant postgraduate experience which must include radiotherapy physics, typically this might be at least two years in radiotherapy physics
* Specialist training on and practical experience of a wide range of radiotherapy equipment and computer applications
* Specialist training on and general practical experience of linear accelerators, treatment planning systems and dosimetry techniques
Desirable
* To be able to act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) or in process of building MPE Portfolio
* Experience of a specialist area (e.g., VMAT/IMRT, IGRT, radiotherapy imaging, Radiotherapy IT, film dosimetry, EPID dosimetry, electron treatment, treatment planning site specialisation, Monte Carlo modelling, in vivo dosimetry, clinical trials etc.)
