Buyer – Engineering & Manufacturing
Location: Bolton
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000
Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Thursday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Friday 8:30 am – 2:30 pm
Holidays: 24 days holiday + 8 Bank Holidays

About the Role
We’re on the hunt for an experienced Buyer to manage and optimise our supply chain operations. Reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager, you’ll play a key role in maintaining stock flow to both our Head Office production and the wider branch network. This role is about building strong supplier relationships, ensuring high-quality standards, and securing the best value at every stage of procurement.
Key Responsibilities
* Procurement Projects: Manage procurement projects to meet quality standards and timelines set by the Purchasing Director.
* Supplier Relations & Evaluation: Develop relationships with suppliers to drive continuous improvement, including vendor appraisals and site visits to assess quality standards and working practices.
* Technical Requirements & Analysis: Develop specifications and performance test requirements for parts and equipment. Review technical data, designs, and supplier capabilities to make informed procurement decisions.
* Collaborative Problem-Solving: Work with engineers to set performance criteria and specifications for manufacturing and testing, facilitating a seamless process from procurement to production.
* Supplier Coordination: Arrange and participate in meetings with suppliers and cross-functional teams (engineering, purchasing, inspection) to ensure material quality and cost efficiency.
* Quote Evaluation & Contract Negotiation: Review and assess supplier quotes, negotiating and securing contracts that meet both commercial and technical needs.
* Stock Management: Maintain effective stock level checks to support business efficiency and minimise delays.
* Industry Engagement: Attend relevant trade conferences and supplier meetings in the UK and abroad as required.
Who You Are
* Qualified Buyer: Chartered Institute of Purchasing Supplies qualified, or equivalent through experience.
* Engineering Knowledge: Strong understanding of engineering materials and manufacturing processes.
* Purchasing Expertise: Up-to-date knowledge of best purchasing practices and procedures.
* Negotiator: Excellent negotiation skills to secure the best deals and contract terms.
* Communicator: Strong communication skills, with a sense of urgency and proactive problem-solving.
