The Dorset Combined Youth Justice Service (YJS) is looking for a full-time Youth Justice Worker to join our stable and supportive team and help children enjoy positive futures free of crime. This post is fixed term for 12 months.
The ethos of the team is "child first" and all staff have been trained in trauma informed practice. Based in Bournemouth, you will join a multi-agency team of skilled and motivated professionals.
The role of the Youth Justice Worker is to listen to, assess the needs of children and their families/carers, and come up with creative plans to help them get back on the right track. This post will be primarily focused on trying to divert children away from the justice system; therefore, linking with a whole range of community services will be vital.
Our ideal candidate will be creative, resourceful, supportive, and will have a genuine desire to positively shape the futures of children. You will have experience of working with children and young people, a clear interest in working in the justice system, and great skills in connecting with children. We are not looking necessarily for someone with a lot of qualifications – the important thing is attitude and the ability to form relationships. Access to training and continued professional development will be available to the successful candidate.
This post involves working with children or vulnerable adults and/or having access to significant information about them and will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check. Previous personal involvement in the justice system will not necessarily be a bar to appointment, and we would actively welcome applicants who may have made mistakes in their past.
If you think you could be the person that we are looking for and need in our team, we would love to hear from you. To find out more about the role, please call 01202 794321 and ask to speak to Mark Hill (Team manager) or Ellie Sayer (Practice Manager).
Interview Date: 24th January 2025
