The Community Midwifery team at UHDB (University Hospitals of Derby and Burton) is looking for a committed, enthusiastic new team member with good communication skills who is passionate about contributing and delivering the best possible experience from our maternity service.
We currently have a part-time vacancy 4 days a week within the Babington team. This team is based at Babington Hospital in Ripley and covers the geographical areas of Heanor, Ripley, Belper, Alfreton, Somercotes, and Ashbourne.
The post involves supporting/working with community Midwives to provide care to women and their babies within home and clinic environments. Maternity Support Workers are key members of the maternity team at UHDB, and the role can be varied, including some administrative and logistical duties. The MSW will work alongside Midwives but also independently when qualified in the role.
Applicants can apply for this post if they have grade C in English and Maths at GCSE level, NVQ Level 3 in health and social care, and have recent experience of providing clinical care in an acute clinical setting.
The successful applicant will be required to provide evidence of grades/qualifications prior to starting the role and will have to undertake additional training within the role.
Main duties of the job
The role involves working alongside Midwives in antenatal clinics, supporting patients in the community during pregnancy and after the birth of their baby in postnatal clinics and in the home. You will be trained to support with infant feeding, carry out venepuncture, and new-born screening tests.
The position will include some administrative duties. You will also need to demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills. The role does involve moving between multiple locations during the working day.
The successful candidate will require access to their own vehicle for work purposes and a full driving licence. The team is based within Amber Valley and the Derbyshire Dales.
The role involves a working day from 8.00am to 4.00pm and, once qualified, will include weekend working one weekend day a month. Please consider this when making an application.
