Job title: Principal Engineer - Software - SMCS

Salary: Circa £60,000+ (depending on skills and experience)
What you'll be doing:
* Lead a team of software engineers in the design, implementation, testing, and acceptance of SMCS software releases. Organise, delegate, and manage the workflow and responsibilities of all team members, liaising with stakeholders to ensure software is delivered on schedule, to cost, and to quality.
* Work with product engineering teams to deliver through-lifecycle aspects of the development and requirements.
* Collaborate with the SMCS Software Development Manager to assign engineering resources as required to meet SMCS Programme priority needs.
* Responsible for delivery of all software engineering effort, including budget, schedule, work package allocation, and tracking with EVM (or similar).
* Ensure the development and execution of resource plans including forward load forecasting, recruitment, and reassignment of engineers to meet the requirements of allocated software programme(s).
* Engage with SMCS customers and end users, as required, to enable development of the SMCS Programme(s) and the continued evolution of the SMCS product.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
* Team lead/line management experience supporting multiple complex programmes.
* A solid understanding of the software lifecycle (e.g. waterfall, Agile, Spiral) and associated methodologies (e.g. UML).
* Significant experience managing software engineering programmes, including working within challenging budgets and timescales, work package allocation, and progress tracking.
* Development and execution of resource plans including forward load forecasting, recruitment, and reassignment of engineers.
* Excellent communication skills and experience interfacing with customers.
Desirable:
* Tracking using Earned Value Management.
* Experience with the Atlassian toolset.
