About the Role
Could you work to provide support to Ukrainians fleeing war, and to their hosts to help hosting arrangements to work well, overcome language and cultural barriers and empower Ukrainian guests to access services to live well in Leicestershire?
We have a short-term opportunity to work as part of our Homes for Ukraine Team being the first point of contact for Ukrainian guest’s welfare and support queries and supporting their independence.
We are looking for someone with excellent skills in communicating, building trust, and providing person focussed advocacy and support to join our team as Support Officer to support Ukrainian guests in the UK as part of the Ukraine Sponsorship scheme to understand and access services they require to live well with their host or in independent accommodation.
You will liaise with Ukrainians and their hosts, carry out welfare checks and be a trusted point of contact for concerns or queries relating to the scheme and living in Leicestershire. You will coach and support Ukrainians to access services and identify and develop approaches to meet outstanding needs.
This is a great opportunity to be part of a small but wide-reaching team making a difference to people fleeing sanctuary from the war in Ukraine.
This is a full-time position with potential for flexible working in line with business need. This is a temporary position to 30 September 2025.
The role is based at County Hall in Glenfield with opportunities for home and remote working. Equipment for remote working will be provided. Travel across the County of Leicestershire will be required to work directly with Ukrainian guests and their hosts.
A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

About You
To apply for this post, you must:
1. Qualification in Health or Social Care or relevant experience (paid or voluntary) of working with individuals and communities in a community development or support context.
2. Experience of working in a team, working well with people from different backgrounds, motivating and leading self and others.
3. Experience of working with individuals who may be experiencing challenging issues or circumstances in a sensitive and professional manner, including being able to diffuse difficult situations.
4. A good understanding of the Council’s remit in supporting the Homes for Ukraine Scheme and Government guidance regarding this scheme.
5. Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of people, and to coach, mentor and support Ukrainians to resolve difficulties and overcome barriers they face to living well in Leicestershire.
6. Good time management skills and the ability to learn new processes and systems quickly and respond flexibly to changing requirements
