In this permanent senior role, you will mainly be required to carry out structural inspections, investigation and testing works including desk top studies and reporting. A Lead Inspector will also be able to operate independently without supervision, be responsible for aspects of project management, compiling site H&S files/RAMS, dealing with booking traffic management, arranging plant, allocating resource including equipment, liaising with clients to name but some senior level duties.
As part of the above duties, the Lead Technician will be required to walk/climb structural embankments, sometimes steep, climb over boundary/protective fences etc in order to access all areas of a structure. Scaffold towers and generators etc (25kg Max weight) are also required to be carried from vehicles to desired locations suitable to undertake works. The large proportion of works are undertaken on carriage and motorways within temporary lane closures via a Mobile Elevated Working Platform (MEWP). Working within close proximity to fast moving traffic and up to a height of approx. 32m vertically. Confined space Inspections (Low & medium risk) of culverts and drainage wells are also regularly undertaken by all staff.
Due to the above tasks associated with the role, a healthy level of physical and mental fitness is required from all level of staff.
Key Accountabilities:
Organising and managing a small team
Carrying out data analysis / desktop studies prior to all site works, including reviewing previous reports and drawings
Ensuring preparation and completion of site Health & Safety files and Risk Assessment / Method Statement packs / Work Permits
Organising specialist access / plant for all allocated projects
Assisting in project programming
Being the main point of contact for the project client and all associated subcontractors whilst on site and in the office
Delivering site briefings
Recording project progress and provide accurate reporting figures
Leading by example and ensuring all company policies and procedures are adhered to, such as carrying out pre and post use vehicle/plant checks and completing Initial Site Checklist forms and MEWP Checklist forms
Carrying out Principal & General Inspections in accordance with CS450
Carrying out Investigation, Testing and NDT works to the relevant standards
Writing reports using several methods, including via various systems, on BCI forms and using traditional ‘hand written’ format
Checking reports written by others to ensure quality is consistently maintained
Liaising with clients, subcontractors and 3rd parties in a professional manner
Training junior members of staff in relation to site works and report writing A Lead Technician will also have experience in inspecting and testing a wide range of structural types and will also have excellent knowledge in the preparation of examination reports and be able to provide them in typed format in addition to utilising various on-line reporting formats. They must also have sufficient structural knowledge in order for them to check and amend reports. The above duties are not exhaustive and a Lead Technician may be required to undertake duties in addition to the above to ensure the company’s overall requirements are met.
