Description of the Role:
Simply Education are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Food Technician to join a dynamic secondary school in Stockport. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a passion for food preparation, safety, and supporting students in practical learning environments. As a Food Technician, you will play a key role in assisting the Design Technology department with the preparation and organization of food technology lessons, ensuring a smooth and efficient learning experience for both teachers and students.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the food classrooms, preparing equipment and ingredients for lessons, and providing technical support to teachers and students. You will also contribute to maintaining health and safety standards within the department, ensuring all students are working in a safe, supportive, and well-organized environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Design Technology department in preparing and setting up resources for food technology lessons.
Organize and maintain stock of ingredients, utensils, and equipment for food-based practical lessons.
Ensure health and safety protocols are followed at all times, including food safety, hygiene, and kitchen safety standards.
Provide support to students during food technology lessons, assisting with practical tasks and ensuring students follow the correct procedures.
Clean and maintain the food preparation areas, equipment, and classrooms to a high standard, in line with school policies and health and safety guidelines.
Monitor and maintain stock levels of ingredients, equipment, and materials, ordering supplies as necessary.
Assist in the safe disposal of waste and food-related materials.
Support the teacher in managing class activities and provide technical assistance with cooking, preparation, and food presentation tasks.
Help with the delivery of small group or individual support when required.
Ensure that all students understand and follow the safety protocols within the food technology environment.
Applicant Requirements:
Previous experience working as a Food Technician or in a similar technical support role, preferably within an educational setting.
Knowledge of food safety, hygiene regulations, and kitchen health and safety practices.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage materials and resources effectively.
Ability to support students in a practical learning environment, offering guidance on food preparation and cooking techniques.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
A proactive and flexible approach to work.
Enhanced DBS check (we can assist with this if necessary).
