Swindon Borough Council is forging a future where connectivity powers progress. We're seeking six visionary, creative and passionate directors to join our leadership team, turn the dial on performance and drive our improvement plans forward.
We’re integrating services, connecting our workforce with a sense of mission, fostering improved partnerships and harnessing AI and data to inform our preventative approach.
This is your chance as our Director of Housing and Homelessness to lead our Stronger and Safer Communities team and drive forward the transformation of Swindon’s housing service.
About the role
As Director of Housing and Homelessness, working with the Corporate Director you’ll play a central role in leading our Stronger and Safer Communities directorate, overseeing the management of more than 10,000 council and leaseholder properties. You'll be instrumental in delivering a high-quality, tenant-focused housing service, ensuring efficient operations and fostering positive experiences for all residents.
In this role, you will drive the delivery of Swindon’s housing transformation, including a proactive capital replacement programme informed by critical stock condition analysis and our evolving Asset Management Plan. With a holistic approach, you’ll ensure that the housing service is fully integrated with the broader Council and Safer Stronger Communities directorate.
A key aspect of your role will involve delivering the Housing Asset Management Plan and implementing the Housing Improvement Plan. You will champion the use of data and insights to support the strategic and structural review of housing services, ensuring our commitment to continuous improvement is upheld.
What we’re looking for
We’re seeking a senior leader with significant experience in managing regulated housing services within a local authority context. You will have a proven track record of delivering complex housing functions, with a focus on compliance, tenant satisfaction, and service innovation.
Your strong strategic leadership and ability to inspire and motivate teams will be essential to our success. With a sound understanding of the Regulator for Housing’s requirements, you’ll bring expertise in compliance and quality improvement. As a full member of the Chartered Institute of Housing, you’ll be equipped with the professional qualifications and insight necessary to lead at this level.
This is your opportunity to bring creativity, innovation, and a fresh perspective to how we deliver housing services in Swindon. You’ll have the autonomy to shape services and drive transformation, supported by our forward-thinking leadership team.
Join us on this exciting journey and help make a lasting impact on Swindon’s housing services and residents.
