Research Scientist - Multi-Phase Fluid Dynamics Experimentalist
Job Title:
Research Scientist - Multi-Phase Fluid Dynamics Experimentalist
About Us:
We are a global technology company, driving energy innovation for a balanced planet. Together, we create amazing technology that unlocks access to energy for the benefit of all. At SLB, we recognize that our innovation, creativity, and success stem from our differences. We actively recruit people with a diverse range of backgrounds and cultivate a culture of inclusion that unlocks the benefits of our diversity.
Location:
SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB's global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a creative self-motivated Research Scientist to develop experiments for multiphase flow dynamics. The initial focus will be on recommissioning existing multiphase flow loops and will expand to improve design and automate the systems and lead the experiments. The job will require experience in mechanical design, building, and commissioning of flow loops and knowledge of Python to maintain and upgrade the flow loop control system and automate experiments.
Responsibilities:
1. Execute multiphase fluid flow experiments (gas, liquid, and solid phases) using the state-of-the-art flow loops in SCR.
2. Work with modellers and production domain experts to build and validate models and concepts.
3. Engage and collaborate with SLB technical community.
4. Develop novel solutions to research and engineering problems, and articulate them to the technology team and management.
5. Publish scientific papers, write patent applications and attend conferences.
Qualifications:
1. PhD in Fluid mechanics or a related field.
2. Expertise in experimental multiphase fluid dynamics (gas, liquid, and solid phases) experimentally, numerically, and empirically.
3. Experience in mechanical design, building, and commissioning of flow loops, particularly handling multiphase flows.
4. Knowledge of Python to maintain and upgrade the flow loop control system and automate experiments.
5. Experience in data acquisition, signal processing, and data interpretation including data science approaches is highly desirable.
6. Experience in advanced instrumentation for multiphase flow measurements including laser-optical (PLIF, PIV), electrical, ultrasonic, and nuclear techniques is desirable.
7. CFD modelling of multiphase flows (Ansys, OpenFoam, COMSOL) is desirable.
8. Relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals are desirable.
9. Understanding of Production Systems is desirable.
