What a day might look like for you
Here at the RSPCA we know it's a cliche but no two days are the same, we have added a short summary of what a typical day might look like.
The Vet Nurse role will be working alongside our Veterinary Surgeon caring for our resident dogs and cats, as well as a range of other species brought by our Inspectorate colleagues. We have kennels and cat pens and they are always full! All our animals have been rescued from cruelty or neglect, so the role involves the triage of new admissions and the ongoing treatment and care during their stay. You will be assisting with surgical patient care.
Our expert team at Merthyr Tydfil Clinic provide life-saving veterinary care to thousands of animals rescued by RSPCA frontline officers, this is the sole focus for the team. They also provide vital support to rescued animals being cared for at RSPCA centres. So that we are able to give the most vulnerable animals the best care and attention we are no longer public facing.
If you would like to learn more about the role and would like a chat please feel free to email phoebe.ohara@rspca.org.uk to arrange a suitable time to talk either via video link or over the telephone.
What makes a great Veterinary Nurse at the RSPCA?
Our Nurses are the heartbeat of the Veterinary team and ensure the work of our Vet Surgeon runs smoothly, with that in mind our Nurse needs to have either a Level 3 Diploma, or a Degree in Vet Nursing and have a current registration with the RCV.
Having experience in surgical operations, dentistry and neutering is essential, along with great attention to detail to keep our records up to date. In addition, an interest in animal behaviour would be useful.
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK - We are unable to sponsor visas at RSPCA.
Final note from us & good luck with your application!
We want to ensure we do all we can to give you a positive candidate experience through our recruitment. Whilst we do try to give feedback where we can, sometimes due to receiving high levels of applications, this may not always be possible.
We recognise that a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential to achieving our core mission. For this reason, we actively encourage a wide diversity of applications - in particular from members of minority ethnic groups, and people with disabilities - as these candidates are currently under-represented at the RSPCA.
Should you need any support with your application or interview process please contact resourcingteam@rspca.org.uk / 0300 123 0685.
Our mission is to ensure animals have a good life by rescuing and caring for those in need, by advocating on behalf of all animals and by inspiring everyone to treat them with compassion and respect.
