Band 6 Biomedical Science Histology Locum – Sheffield Position: Biomedical Science – Histology Banding: 6 Location: Sheffield Hours: Core hours Rate: £24.00 – £30.00 per hour The Biomedical Science team at Pulse is currently recruiting a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Histology to work in a busy lab in Sheffield. We are looking for a biomedical scientist who can make a real difference in supporting the laboratory's cellular histology service. We are seeking a suitable histology biomedical scientist proficient in microtomy. What will you be doing in this Biomedical Scientist role? As a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Histology, you will be responsible for proficiently performing microtomy, achieving high-quality sectioning at a rate of over 30 blocks per hour, as well as overseeing embedding and staining processes while ensuring adherence to established protocols. You will implement quality control measures, support senior biomedical scientists in delivering comprehensive histology services, and provide training and mentorship to junior staff. Additionally, you will maintain accurate documentation of laboratory activities, assist in preparing reports for stakeholders, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations by participating in risk assessments and promoting a safe working environment. Essential Requirements for this Biomedical Scientist position: Previous experience working in a UK NHS Histology laboratory is vital. Relevant qualification in Biomedical Science (e.g., BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent). Must be proficient in microtomy, embedding, and staining techniques.
