We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Band 6 Neuro Physiotherapist to join our Neuro Outpatient team located in our new rehabilitation gym at Great Western Hospital. We are looking for a physiotherapist who wants to consolidate and further develop their specialist Neurological skills towards advanced practice.
We are a truly caring and dynamic team based at Great Western Hospital, therapists are supported by highly experienced clinical specialists. We have excellent links with our Consultant colleagues, specialist nurse practitioners and local rehabilitation teams.
You will have an interesting and wide-ranging caseload of neurological conditions including MS, MND, FND, and stroke. We provide a specialist vestibular service, and you will be trained and supported to develop clinical skills in this area.
We are a team that is developing and modernising, and we are looking for an innovative therapist to join us on this journey.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Band 6 Physiotherapist is to develop and deliver a highly specialised and skilled level of neurological physiotherapy including advanced assessment and treatment of patients who may have complex disabilities due to neurological conditions. You will be responsible for your own specialist caseload and that of the team under your direct supervision, including Band 5s and assistants, and assist in the day-to-day organisation, development, and monitoring of the specialised neuro team, working alongside other senior staff and Clinical Specialists to provide a comprehensive and high-quality physiotherapy service.
Job responsibilities
* To treat a complex caseload in the Neuro Outpatient Department, and other locations as service requires using advanced and highly developed skills.
* To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
* To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation, using highly specialised assessment and clinical reasoning skills to formulate individualised management and treatment plans, utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised programme of care.
* To be professional, legally responsible, and accountable for all aspects of your own work. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and support Band 5s to do the same.
* To assist in the running of the Neuro Outpatient Department, and to deputise for the Clinical Specialist if required, including attending meetings, MND Forums, and others as required.
* To take part in working parties/forums, developing policy changes within the Neuro Outpatient Department which will impact all service users.
* To work with the Clinical Specialist in developing and implementing the strategic and operational management of the physiotherapy service.
* To communicate effectively and sensitively with patients and those involved around patient care using a variety of skills and written information to maximise rehabilitation potential and ensure understanding of condition. There may be barriers to communication such as sensory loss impairments, cognitive deficits, and dysphasia.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in Physiotherapy
* MCSP
* HCPC
* Manual handling training
* Post Graduate neurological training
Experience
* Demonstrable CPD in neurology
* Sound understanding of Clinical Governance
* Experience with neurological patients, including assessment and treatment of a variety of neurological conditions
* Experience of supervising students
* Experience of assessment and treatment of complex neurological patients
* Experience of assessment and treatment of vestibular conditions
Skills
* Analytical approach to assessment and treatment
* Demonstrate appropriate knowledge in assessment, handling, treatment skills and competencies in neurological physiotherapy
* Knowledge and effective use of exercise therapy
* Experience in use of outcome measures
* Knowledge of national plans/frameworks
