Job summary
Birtle View Medical Practice is looking to hire an experienced GP Assistant with good communication and organisational skills who can prioritise tasks, free up GPs time and contribute to the smooth running of appointments, improving patient experience at the practice.
A GP Assistant will support the GP(s) smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on the patients.
Main duties of the job
1. Extracting information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes
2. Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients
3. Taking blood pressure, phlebotomy and giving basic vaccinations
4. Completing basic forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as, insurance forms, benefit agencies etc.
5. Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies, contacting on call doctors for advice or arrange admission

GP Assistants will be expected to:
6. Follow the company confidentiality procedure
7. Support GPs with contacting external agencies such as; on-call doctors, safeguarding teams etc.
8. Understanding medical terminology and using this knowledge when filing clinical letters and extracting information
9. Arranging appropriate appointments and supporting the reception / admin team in signposting patients
10. Taking blood pressures, phlebotomy and basic vaccinations

11. Experience working in General Practice
12. Experience working with EMIS Web and Docman
13. Have an understanding of patient confidentiality
Desirable
14. Trained and certified in Phlebotomy
15. Experience of taking blood pressure readings
