About the Role:
TeacherActive is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support a child with autism and challenging behaviour on a 1:1 basis at a primary school in Longbridge, Birmingham. This is a long-term, full-time position, where you will play a crucial role in supporting a Year 3 student and helping them to achieve their full potential in a supportive and inclusive school environment.
The role will begin in April 2025 and is expected to continue on a long-term basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant to make a real difference in the life of a child who requires tailored support in both academic and social aspects of school life.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 student with autism and challenging behaviour, helping them to engage in lessons and develop social, emotional, and academic skills.
* Support the child in managing challenging behaviour and implement strategies that promote positive behaviours in line with the school's approach.
* Help the student access the curriculum by providing tailored assistance, adjusting resources, and facilitating learning activities.
* Collaborate with the classroom teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to develop and implement personalised support plans for the student.
* Monitor and record the student’s progress and report any concerns to the appropriate staff.
* Promote inclusion, ensuring the child is fully integrated into classroom activities and school life.
* Assist with maintaining a positive and nurturing environment, supporting the child’s emotional well-being and encouraging independence where possible.
* Build strong, trusting relationships with the student, parents, and school staff to ensure the child's needs are being met effectively.
Specification:
We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who:
* Has experience working with children with autism, particularly those who display challenging behaviour.
* Holds a relevant qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or similar (Level 2/3 or equivalent is desirable).
* Demonstrates a calm, patient, and empathetic approach when working with children with additional needs.
* Has excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
* Is confident in implementing behaviour management strategies and supporting children in overcoming challenges.
* Is adaptable, proactive, and able to work independently when required.
* Is passionate about supporting children to reach their full potential and thrive in an inclusive learning environment.
* Has a good understanding of the needs of children with autism and other special educational needs.
