Role Overview
An Alternative Provision School in Birkenhead is seeking a dedicated and passionate Health and Social Care Teacher to join their team. This full-time role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on students who have struggled in mainstream education, delivering engaging lessons that inspire and empower Key Stage 3 and 4 students.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in Health and Social Care tailored to the needs of students with diverse learning abilities and educational barriers.
- Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, setting achievable goals to ensure academic development.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support students' social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Develop and maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and external agencies to implement effective learning plans and interventions.
- Build strong, positive relationships with students, helping them overcome barriers to learning and fostering trust.
- Uphold the school's ethos of creating a supportive and respectful environment for all students.
- Contribute to the wider school community, participating in staff meetings, training, and extracurricular activities where appropriate.
Person Specification:
The ideal candidate will:
- Be resilient, empathetic, and passionate about supporting students with additional needs.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Be adaptable and creative in their teaching approach, understanding that no two students are the same.
- Have experience working in alternative provisions or with students who have faced challenges in mainstream education (desirable).
- Demonstrate a calm and patient demeanour, with the ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively.
- Be committed to helping students develop both academically and personally, enabling them to reach their full potential.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent) is required.
- Experience teaching Health and Social Care or a similar subject at secondary level.
- Knowledge of SEMH needs and strategies to support students with these challenges is highly desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
