Are you an experienced commercial litigation associate/senior associate looking for an opportunity within an unusual Top 200 law firm with a great culture and work-life balance?
Based in central Bristol and convenient for both the city centre and Temple Meads, this firm has a genuinely flexible, friendly and refreshing “non-law firm” type of culture and offers hybrid flexibility of 2 days per week in the office. There is a strong culture of work-life balance which is led from the top - so expect to be told to go home if you’re still working after 5:30!
The offices are open plan with leaders siting with their teams and the culture is genuinely open with regular leadership updates/Q&A sessions, an environment that encourages questions/challenge, has a firm commitment to D&I through dedicated employee networks and is passionately supportive of your continued professional development.
Their complex litigation team of c50 handles a wide variety of insurance claims ranging from £25K to £5M for a broad spectrum of clients and has guaranteed workflow - so you never have business development targets and have an easily achievable billable guidelines of 6 hours/day. The team has enjoyed consistent and continued growth over the last 5 years and so offers earlier caseload and staff supervision responsibility than a lot of law firms - so there is great development potential for your onward progression. They operate a clear career pathway plan that allows you to grow either as a technical specialist or as more of a people manager.
This new opportunity has been created following the consistent growth of their litigation team. As part of a dedicated, but friendly and sociable Commercial Litigation team of c10, you will take full end-to-end responsibility for your own caseload of higher value intermediate and multi-track claims - working closely with other Senior Associates and Principal Associates. You will be supported by more junior fee-earners in delivering the best outcomes for clients on a wide range of complex cases, resolving disputes in a commercial manner via the courts, mediation or ADR.
Unlike a lot of law firms, you are not required to fit into a certain PQE banding, it’s what you bring to the table in terms of your skills, experience and ambition that are more important.
Key experience that is likely to be of interest will include:
* Proven (and varied) commercial litigation experience – particularly in commercial contract disputes
* A demonstrable ability to manage your own caseload from pre-action to trial/court (though c70% of cases are resolved through mediation/ADR)
* Experience of supervising and coaching more junior members of the team
Salary will be according to experience up to £80,000 – plus there is a great non-financial benefits package including flexible working, discounts on goods and services, generous parental leave, charity days and a strong social calendar.
