Transport Planning Consultant Daily Rate: £493 Organisation: Rotherham Council Job Type: Temporary Contract Rotherham Council are looking to appoint a Transport Planning and Policy Consultant to act as a Service Manager within their Transportation Infrastructure department. This pivotal role involves shaping both the immediate and long-term transport strategy for Rotherham and the South Yorkshire region. You will have the opportunity to lead the delivery planning of the current Transport Capital Programme, including development of active travel, public transport, and behavioural change programmes. Day-to-day of the role: Manage and develop complex policies and programmes to promote and deliver active travel, road safety, bus priority, and other transport initiatives across the borough. Lead the development of business cases, ensuring they are WebTAG/HMT Greenbook compliant, to secure funding for transport projects. Formulate local transport policy and strategy, ensuring alignment with wider sub-regional and national policies. Provide transportation, traffic, highway, and parking input to the Development Management process, focusing on major sites and areas of strategic, region-wide significance. Maximise financial contributions from development to mitigate impacts on local transport systems and support the borough’s long-term transport infrastructure needs. Enhance levels of public transport and active travel in the borough by lobbying and liaising with bus operators, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, and other strategic partners. Required Skills & Qualifications: Strong communication, influencing, and problem-solving skills. Excellent project management and team leadership qualities. Experience in leading transport planning and policy development. Ability to manage complex transport planning programmes and initiatives.
