About the role
Monocle is delivering on ambitious plans to expand our book publishing. As part of our passionate and talented books team, you will play a key role in the creation and production of some of the beautiful, high-quality publications that we are known for.
The deputy books editor role will suit candidates who understand the book-production cycle and who can bring talent and experience as a journalist in the lifestyle or travel sector.
Reporting to the head of book publishing, you will be responsible for project managing and delivering allocated titles autonomously. Day to day, you will be researching new ideas, co-ordinating freelance contributors and working with other in-house departments, including art and production.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
1. Four to six years’ experience working in an editorial or book-publishing capacity
2. The ability to independently manage the entire book-production process, effectively negotiating multiple work streams and stakeholders throughout
3. Attention to detail, initiative and a proactive approach
4. Confident communication skills, with experience using InDesign, Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Google Docs and Sheets
5. A positive attitude and a true collaborator, you are committed to creating the highest quality products
