As Commercial Manager, you will play a pivotal role within the organisation, reporting directly to the Commercial Director and operating as an integral part of a versatile team. You will lead the end-to-end process from initial customer contact through to bid generation, from the operational handshake to the post completion analysis and reviews. It’s a key role that interacts with all aspects of the business internally, our supply chain and our customers to ensure that our bids have that winning edge.
Commercial Manager Key Responsibilities:
* Bid Management. Lead the bid process with internal departments, suppliers and subcontractors to maximise margin whilst ensuring competitive position to increase likelihood of winning. Presenting business case to Senior Management for sign-off prior to customer submission.
* Contract Management: Oversee the entire contract lifecycle, from initial contract award to contract execution, including contract terms. Leading the Contract Review process to ensure key requirements and risks are captured and documented prior to issuing the customer order acknowledgement.
* Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams from engineering to quality and procurement to manufacturing, to ensure competitive and achievable contract submissions are generated. Offer sound commercial advice and guidance to program management teams to protect and grow existing relationships
* Risk Management: Identify and assess contractual risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect the company's interests.
* Compliance: Ensure that all contracts adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, export controls, and industry standards in the sector.
* Contract Administration: Establish and maintain contract records, documentation, and databases, ensuring accurate and up-to-date contract information is readily accessible.
* Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis of bid and compiling contract budget information to allow Program Management to track costs, revenues, and profitability.
* Change Management: Handle contract modifications, amendments, and variations while ensuring that changes are properly documented, costed and approved.
* Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify areas for process improvement within the contract management function and implement best practices to optimise efficiency.
Commercial Manager Skills:
* Strong Project Management skills and ability to control multiple bid/contract requirements.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficient in preparing and delivering senior-level briefs.
* Proficient in identifying and addressing commercial risks with mitigation strategies.
* Ability to build effective relationships with cross-functional colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
* Ability to promote a culture of best practices and knowledge sharing within the function and across the wider business.
Commercial Manager Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree, professional qualification, and/or defence contracting experience.
* Costing and bid management experience.
* Solid financial acumen including profit & loss, margin & mark-up, escalation with drive to measure/react to cost drivers.
* Experience in KPI reporting through CRM package.
* Awareness or Good level of technical/engineering processes.
* Good understanding of manufacturing processes.
* Excellent knowledge of aerospace and defence or manufacturing sector.
* Experience with UK Government contracts is beneficial.
