Job Purpose: The post holder will be responsible for developing, maintaining and delivering a high-quality technical support service, which delivers information learning services to staff and students through the College's network. Department:IT Services Responsible to:Head of IT Services Reporting to:Desktop Services Lead Location:Enniskillen (Erne Campus and Technology & Skills Centre) Main Duties and Responsibilities Management of the Network To co-ordinate and plan work activities in conjunction with Head of IT Services in relation to College technical services to ensure an efficient and effective service delivery to all staff and students. To hold regular team meetings to ensure effective deployment of technical resources. To supervise review and approve staff documentation including timesheets and other documentation in relation to technical staff. To develop, implement and maintain IT and technical policies and procedures to ensure the effective operation of technical services on a cross campus basis. To be involved in the implementation of all associated human resource policies in accordance with the terms and conditions of support staff in the College. To liaise with external College contacts/stakeholders and internal support/lecturing staff, developing and maintaining relations as appropriate and attend meetings where relevant. Organisation and Development To monitor and develop network performance through a range of network management tools whilst ensuring that all aspects of network operations adhere to relevant legislation. To assist in the development of the College network across campuses by integrating new network technologies within the existing and/or emerging network infrastructure. To assist in the implementation and development of technical procedures ensuring that all network users are fully compliant with the College's Acceptable Use Policy. To monitor and review hardware/software licensing agreements with external agencies to ensure best value for money. To maintain an IT inventory ensuring all IT equipment/resources are properly recorded, documented and secured. To deliver effective training to business support and lecturing staff on College IT systems within the guidelines established by the internal teams of the College. IT Support To design and develop scripts for the seamless integration with other IT systems whilst monitoring and maintaining IT security. To liaise with suppliers about support issues in relation to the College technical systems whilst ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the network. To provide advice to users and operate an IT user support function to all staff and students of the College through the maintenance of an effective central IT Service Desk facility across all campuses. To ensure that the College's networks and support services are updated as required in line with technological innovations. To assist with review and evaluation of sections operational plan. To devise a range of standardised IT reports to assist managers in decision making and to write customised reports for managers in response to identified needs. To ensure the efficient and effective operation of the College IT systems which includes system security, systems development, assisting in the implementation of new systems, configuration of PC's and servers, back-up and disaster recovery. To maintain external/internal connectivity between sites and to other networks as appropriate. Supervisory Duties To manage and monitor technical staff time. To supervise and manage work placement and student interns. To assist with the development of work plans for work placement students and internships. To interpret College policy and develop supporting procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation and good practice at all times. Monitoring and Review To contribute to the development of quality systems to meet and achieve external quality assurance and audit standards (e.g. IQ:RS, ISO 9001, Investors in People). To collate qualitative and quantitative information for college management and external agencies (e.g. Department for Economy, NIRAN, JISC). To attend internal and external audit meetings with auditors and provide information as required. To ensure effective cleansing of data on all IT systems on an annual basis whilst carrying out on-going housekeeping activities. To provide advice to staff and resolve queries and to promote an awareness of the value of the College's IT Services, to ensure all staff are aware of the need to maintain the integrity and security of the data held. Essential Criteria Method of Assessment Qualifications & Experience GCSE English Language and Maths (Grade A C) or equivalent Hold a Degree or equivalent in Computing and/or Information Technology. OR Hold a Foundation Degree/HND or equivalent in Computing and/or Information Technology. Minimum of 3 years technical support experience, gained in the last 5 years, in installation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of: operating systems such as Windows, macOS or Linux; a range of specialist application software such as Microsoft, Adobe and third party; desktop and specialist hardware; A minimum of 1 year supervising and leading technical support team members. Proven track record of a logical approach to IT hardware and software problem identification, resolution and documentation. Proven track record of delivering IT projects.
