An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, energetic, and patient-focused Consultant Medical Virologist / Consultant in Infectious Diseases & Virology / Consultant Clinical Scientist - Virology to join the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) Infection Sciences service.

You will support the Infection Sciences team within the microbiology departments based at The Royal Oldham Hospital and Salford Royal Hospital. You will work closely with medical microbiology colleagues across five hospitals within the NCA as well as Wrightington, Wigan, and Leigh NHS Trust as part of the Pathology at Wigan & Salford (PAWS) network. You will join a vibrant clinical virology team and work closely with multidisciplinary teams based both within the acute NHS Trusts and the community.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate must hold a full registration with a license to practice from the General Medical Council or be a HCPC registered Consultant Clinical Scientist in Virology.
Additionally, a primary medical qualification or a PhD in Virology (for Consultant Clinical Scientists) along with successful completion of FRCPath part 1&2 (applicants within 6 months of completing part 2 are also eligible to apply) or equivalent qualification is essential.
As a strong team player, you will be someone who remains calm under pressure, with an ability to take initiative and show leadership as and when required.
There will be opportunities to be involved in the training and mentoring of junior doctors in Infection Sciences as well as partake in quality improvement, audit, and research.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Primary medical qualification (e.g., MBChB / MBBS) OR PhD in Virology for Consultant Clinical Scientists
* The appointee will hold the FRCPath part 2 virology or evidence of equivalent qualification.
* MRCP or evidence of equivalence
* Publication of research articles demonstrating understanding of research methodology and commitments, particularly relating to infection control.
* Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
Registration
* Full registration with a licence to practise from the General Medical Centre (GMC) at the time of commencement of post (or eligible for registration within six months of interview) OR HCPC registered Consultant Clinical Scientist in Virology
* Applicants with GMC registration should be on the GMC specialist register for virology/ Infectious Diseases & virology OR dual registered in microbiology and virology or a related infection discipline
Knowledge
* Broad knowledge of Virology and clinical expertise in Infection Control.
* Clinical Governance and audit understanding
* Experience in Clinical Virology, Infectious Diseases or related disciplines
* Practice in accordance with the "GMC guidance" on Good Medical Practice.
* Management training or qualification and/or evidence of leadership in the development of clinical services
* Experience of virological screening programs such as Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy or cervical cancer screening programmes
* Experience in clinical supervision.
Skills
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work well within a team
* Organisational and leadership skills.
