We are looking for a Psychological Therapist or Clinical Psychologist to join our team.
The Specialist Community Psychology Service works with patients whose needs sit between NHS Talking Therapies services and Secondary Care. The team consists of Psychological Therapists and Clinical Psychologists and provides individualised assessments, formulation and psychological therapies including CBT, EMDR, CAT, ACT, emotion regulation and brief solution focused therapy. We have good links with Newcastle University and have a rotation of first year DClinPsy students on placement. You will provide a clinical service to patients, providing psychological assessment, formulation and therapy.

This post is based in Newcastle upon Tyne and you will provide psychological therapy services via face to face, telephone and video clinics. Some evening work is an essential part of this role. In house supervision is provided.
Job responsibilities
Clinical Psychologist
* To provide a specialist clinical psychology service to the Newcastle Specialist Community Psychology Service, providing specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and therapy.
* Offering advice and consultation on patients' psychological care to colleagues from other disciplines and to other, non-professional carers.
* To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the clinical psychology services policies and procedures.
* To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.
Psychological Therapist
* The post holder will provide a timely adult mental health assessment. They will offer effective signposting as required and will deliver evidence based psychological therapies to those identified as experiencing common mental health problems.
* The post holder will offer training, liaison and consultation to colleagues within the Newcastle Specialist Community Psychology Service to contribute to the improved delivery of psychological therapies within primary care in Newcastle and support the implementation of local protocols.
* The post holder will operate as part of a team and will liaise with NHS Talking Therapy Services, Community Mental Health Teams and other specialist Mental Health Services.
* Post holders will provide clinical supervision to trainees.
* Will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages using interpreters where necessary.
* They will also be required to provide supervision to other staff as appropriate.
* The post has a requirement to work flexibly in line with the aim of providing greater access to clients.
Person Specification
Clinical Psychologist
Essential
* Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society.
* Registered with HCPC - to be eligible for HCPC registration at appointment.
* Doctorate level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
* Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
* In addition to obtaining the necessary qualifications and experience to practice as a clinical psychologist, has additional knowledge of National Good Practice of working as a clinical psychologist in primary care mental health.
* Computer literate - competent use of email/internet and patient information systems for electronic clinical records and diary management.
* Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
* Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
* Well-developed skills in the ability to empathise and communicate effectively, orally and in writing complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
* Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
* Ability to meet the travel requirements of the post - community-based work.
Psychological Therapist
Essential
* Master's Level Qualification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy recognised by the BABCP or full IPT qualification and IPT supervision (as recognised by NHS Talking Therapies) or EMDR qualification and accreditation (as recognised by the EMDR association).
* Current professional registration to practice as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, or a professional registration and accredited in EMDR, working towards/ have consultancy status or accredited IPT therapist with an IPT supervision qualification.
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
* Significant experience of delivering a wide range of therapeutic approaches to mental health problems in a primary care setting.
* Understanding of common mental health problems and their impact on social functioning & interaction with physical health.
* Experience of running groups/classes of a psycho-educational nature.
* Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems.
* Has received risk management training (either formal or through experience) and has carried out risk assessments within scope of practice.
* Thorough understanding of issues surrounding clinical risk.
* Experience of providing clinical supervision.
* Experience of delivering training to a range of professionals.
* Ability to manage own caseload and time.
* Ability to write clear reports and letters to referrers.
* Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
