We have an opportunity for a Vocational Skills Coordinator to join our team at Pebble Academy Muirkirk, East Ayrshire, and build life-changing relationships with our pupils. The role allows you to make a genuine difference in the lives of vulnerable young people between the ages of 11 and 18 by delivering practical lessons in craft and design, practical woodwork, and other vocational skills. Your Role Plan and deliver engaging, practical lessons to small groups of pupils in areas such as woodworking, design, and other vocational skills. Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment, adapting teaching approaches to meet individual needs. Support students in developing confidence, problem-solving abilities, and employability skills. Maintain a safe and well-organised workshop environment, ensuring all activities comply with health and safety regulations. Work collaboratively with the wider school team to contribute to each student's personal and educational development. Engage with local businesses and organisations to explore potential work experience or progression opportunities for students. Developing the school curriculum as required. Assessing, recording, and reporting on the work of pupils. Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education. Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare, and safety of pupils. Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development. Managing pupil behaviours in a trauma-informed manner, in line with the school's context and the wider community's needs, and supporting colleagues in maintaining the school's supportive ethos. Meet pastoral needs for allocated pupils as a Key Teacher and contribute to multi-agency progress meetings. What we offer you A salary of up to £30,000 per annum, pro rata, plus benefits. The Essential qualities we look for We welcome applications from individuals with a background in a relevant trade or vocational discipline. A teaching qualification is not required, but experience working with young people or in an educational/training environment would be beneficial. Practical experience in a trade such as joinery, carpentry, construction, or design. A passion for working with young people, particularly those who have faced challenges in education. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to create a safe and engaging learning environment. Understanding of (or willingness to learn) trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to education. Must have a current valid driving license. PVG enhanced. Right to work in the UK. The Desirable Qualities We Look for Experience in delivering training, coaching, or mentoring. Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to workshop environments. Familiarity with vocational qualifications or alternative education pathways. Knowledge of theoretical approaches to Adverse Childhood Experiences, mental health, attachment, therapeutic parenting, etc., can be applied to everyday practice.
