A secondary provision in Weston-super-Mare is looking for a youth support worker who is highly committed to helping young people, many of whom have faced significant challenges in their lives outside of school. The school's ethos is to boost the children's confidence and show them that they can achieve more than they might believe is possible.
The classroom sizes are no more than 8 students with 2-3 other TAs to support and a teacher leading the class. This role is for a youth support worker to support 11–16-year-olds within a SEMH provision. You do not need prior classroom experience, but you should have experience working with young people who need support.
About the Position:
* The role offers flexible hours and begins in February. Monday-Friday (08:15-15:45) term time only.
* Classroom sizes are no more than 8 students.
* No prior teaching qualifications/experience in the classroom are required, but experience with challenging behaviour is essential.
* Assist the class teacher in providing tailored educational support to students.
* Provide one-on-one support and guidance to children, either individually or in small groups.
* The potential for a contract with the school for the successful candidate.
* On-site car parking available.
The Ideal Candidate:
* Has experience working with children; experience in schools is very desirable.
* Is enthusiastic and able to engage children in their learning.
* Is confident, proactive, and understanding when working with challenging behaviour.
* Has effective de-escalation/behaviour management skills.
* Has a genuine passion for working with children and supporting their development.
