The Registrar is part of the team that provides a professional, efficient and empathetic Registration Service for Shetland. This involves working closely with other Council services, external agencies and the National Records of Scotland Office (NRS).
Specific tasks of the Registrar are:
1. to contribute to the delivery of the Registration Service on a day to day basis, including helping to train new staff
2. to register births, still-births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships, in accordance with appropriate legislation, which involves:
3. interviewing parents and relatives after a birth or a death (by phone, online meeting or in person)
4. interviewing contracting parties (by phone, online or in person) to gather relevant information for submitting marriage and civil partnership notices
5. processing marriage and civil partnership notice forms
6. issuing certificates
7. taking payment for copies of certificates or charges
8. using the Forward Electronic Registration System to record all registrations and manage the input of manual registrations completed outwith Lerwick

10. Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2, per annum
11. Permanent Full Time post for 37.0 Hours per Week, 52.18 weeks per year
12. Preferred candidates will be required to undertake a Basic Disclosure check prior to a formal offer of employment being made
