Job summary Applications are invited for the above Fixed Term post of Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology based at Worthing or St Richard's Hospital part of the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will join our friendly, dynamic team of consultants providing Specialist Diabetes & Endocrinology care whilst also contributing to the inpatient care of speciality and General Medical patients. The post holder will also contribute to the General Medical on call rota.This is a time of real excitement as we look to improve the quality of care for our patients by reducing the elective backlog but also embracing and developing new pathways and technology in Diabetes and Endocrinology. We want to build a team that can work with our key stakeholders in developing new pathways to support patients in the community. The incumbent will ensure the best possible outcomes for patients whilst also contributing to improving mortality, patient experience, length of stay etc. The post holder will work with the multi-disciplinary team and Physician colleagues across the Trust. Main duties of the job Support the ward inpatient teams and provide day to day care of patients across the respiratory ward and necessary outlier areas in times of escalation as a shared responsibility. Be included on the on-call rota for GIM. Currently on a 1 in 8 weekend basis. Less frequency for week days A shared responsibility to provide Advice and Guidance and triage referrals Be an active member of the D&E Team contributing to regular departmental meetings, service development, audit and governance. Provide appropriate cover for patients admitted under the care of another paired consultant during the absence on leave of colleagues within job plan. Provide education to the wider MDT as part of the D&E educational program. There is responsibility for general professional training of the junior members of the department and contributing to the training of nurses and other staff and participating in the activities of the Medical Education Centre.
