Job summary Would you like to work as part of our new Complications of Excess Weight service? A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Complications of Excess Weight (CEW) to join our dynamic weight management multidisciplinary team at the Great North Children's Hospital (GNCH). This one year fixed-term post is aimed at supporting children aged 2-18 years under the complications of excess weight service. The CEW service serves the population across a large geographical area including Newcastle, Northumberland, Gateshead, Durham and North Cumbria. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the holistic care, supporting behaviour-change, managing the reviews and safe administration of GLP-1 agonists (weight-loss injections) for children, and contribute to the development of this new service. The successful applicant will be supported by the CEW MDT and nursing colleagues who work nationally and regularly meet to promote best practice in this newly commissioned area. The post holder will have excellent communication skills to help families with behaviour change, willingness to contribute to multi-disciplinary team working, initiative, and a critical approach to practice. Enthusiasm to contribute as a team in delivering quality patient care to manage obesity related complications, is essential. The post holder will be key worker for children prescribed GLP-1 agonists and be responsible for safe management, and regular reviews of this medication. A high standard of clinical working will be required when carrying out nursing reviews. The post holder will be compliant with our clinical governance framework, involved in research and evaluating the new service. As you may undertake home visits, a car owner and driving licence is preferable.
