An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant IT Support Technician to work within the ICT Service Desk team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on a permanent basis. This would be ideally suited to someone with a passion for technology and experience of working in a fast-paced call handling environment and previous experience of supporting students and apprentices.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will exercise a broad understanding of Information and Technology including networking solutions and data security issues using experience and educational knowledge to achieve this. There will be an expectation that specific systems will require a more specialist level of knowledge gained through training and familiarisation.
The post holder will demonstrate excellent verbal and communication skills, having the ability to convey and communicate complex IT issues to personnel and be able to identify and adjust the communication style based on the individual's level of knowledge and understanding.
The post holder will have the ability to work without the need for close supervision and be expected to work wholly on their own initiative, to a high standard to achieve desired outcomes within relevant timescales, reporting formally to management when necessary directly through detailed written or oral reports. There is also the expectation of supervising the workload of junior staff or contractors, with a need to work well within a team environment.
The post holder should also demonstrate a sound working knowledge of current Windows Operating Systems, including patching and the importance of Cyber Security within an organisation such as the NHS.

Knowledge and Awareness
* Conversant with current NHS operating systems including Windows, and specialist NHS applications.
* Understand the fundamentals of TCP/IP.
* Experience of Active Directory.
* Knowledge of IT Service Tools.
* Experience with Raspbian OS.
* Management of NHS Mail.

Qualifications
* Hold or working towards 3 Grade C or equivalent GCSEs (including English Language and ICT).

* Working towards a degree in a relevant IT related subject.
Experience
* Excellent customer service skills based on previous IT support experience.
