Specialty Doctor in Intellectual Disability Psychiatry

The team works across North & Mid Devon with options to choose from bases available in the attractive market town of Barnstaple or Bideford in North Devon. Both areas are rich in history and heritage, along with hybrid working opportunities. The post holder can be based at either of these locations agreed with the supervising consultant, with the possibility of having their base as the nearest Devon Partnership Trust base to their home.
This post would be suited, but not exclusively, to a committed candidate wishing to pursue an application for the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). Candidates who choose this route are well supported within the Trust.

Main Duties of the Job
The post holder's responsibilities will include providing psychiatric services to adults with Intellectual Disability under the care of the North and Mid Devon Specialist community health team for Intellectual Disability. Regular supervision will be provided by Dr. Reena Haq, Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disability (1.0 WTE), who also works across both teams. The post holder will commit to collaborative working and actively support and liaise with other health and social professionals and agencies, maintaining good relationships with mental health services.
This post is currently vacant due to the previous substantive post holder commencing higher training. The post is substantive, and there is no on-call responsibility.

Person Specification
Research
* Interest in maintaining an up-to-date clinical knowledge base.
* Enthusiasm to contribute to research on-site, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and IT skills.
Personal Skills and CPD
* Ability to communicate with clarity in spoken and written form. Flexible approach, keen to accept new challenges. Punctuality and good time management. Honesty and integrity. Well organized. Commitment to the process of CPD. Ability to organize own learning/CPD.
* Ability to critically examine practice. Registered with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD.
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent. GMC registration.
* Membership or Affiliateship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent. Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Experience
* Has completed at least four years of full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), with at least two of these years in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed-term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or the doctor has equivalent experience and competencies.
* Experience at SHO level or above of working in the field of Intellectual Disability Psychiatry.
Practical Arrangements and Physical
* Meets professional health requirements. Ability to be mobile across a geographical area in a timely manner and according to service needs.
* Access to appropriate transport to fulfil the post.
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and physical and psychological assessment of patients. Ability to write comprehensive, clear medical notes. Ability to manage crises and act independently. Ability to manage potentially violent and disturbed patients. Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies. Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983.
* Up-to-date CPR training. Ability to apply psychological models to practical situations. Evidence-based knowledge of forensic psychiatry. Knowledge of clinical risk management. Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation.
Clinical Governance
* Commitment to involvement in the on-site programme of clinical governance.
* Knowledge of evidence-based practice, clinical audit, and the involvement of users and carers in service provision.
