St Paul’s is a vibrant, dynamic and ambitious church at the heart of the international city of Cambridge, with a vision to be a place of radical welcome and hospitality. The large, adapted church building has become a hub for community activity, encounter and prayer. St Paul’s Church is looking for a full-time Centre Manager to play an essential role in the success of our ambitious vision. The Centre Manager will manage the operational life of St Paul’s Church and Community Centre, this includes all areas of its multifaceted life but with a focus on the commercial operations and building and people management.
Responsibilities
• Work closely with the vicar in a supportive way to ensure that the centre delivers the mission and vision set by the PCC.
• Enable the vicar to lead the spiritual and pastoral aims of the church through effective operational and people management.
• Work with the trustees, especially those who sit on the commerce committee who will set financial targets for you to meet.
• Line manage the staff team (see organisational chart) and be the main point of contact for all staff, including leading team meetings, and be the lead on HR for the centre (HR support is supplied through an external company).
• Improve operational management systems, processes and best practices.
• Run the on-call system for out of hours lettings.
• Purchase materials, plan inventory and oversee the church’s efficiency.
• Review and implement policies as agreed by the trustees.
• Work with the Parish Safeguarding Officer and at the direction of trustees to support best practice in safeguarding. Be the DBS checker and administrator for the centre.
• Provide regular reports for trustee meetings on the centre’s operations.
• Oversee the office environments and maximize their effectiveness for all staff.
• Look after the building, its maintenance and upkeep.
• Make successful grant funding applications to help support our work.
• Organise and manage all external contracts.
