With the retirement of both of our highly regarded and respected Chief Medical Officers, this is a rare opportunity to create a new executive medical leadership team to help take us forward on our journey for patient centred care and the best clinical outcomes, delivered through excellent research, education, and innovation, with a resolute focus on quality, safety and effectiveness.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STH) is one of the UK’s largest, busiest and most complex NHS foundation trusts, providing a wide range of hospital and community services for the people of Sheffield, as well as specialist care for patients from much further afield. Our 20,000 staff work, both in the community, and in five of the country’s leading teaching hospitals. As a member of the Shelford Group, a collaboration between ten of the largest teaching and research-intensive NHS hospital trusts in England, we have a long history of providing high quality care and clinical excellence, as well as an international reputation for innovation in medical research and education.
We are now appointing a new Chief Medical Officer (Operations) who will take the executive lead on all aspects of quality and safety, medical workforce development and leadership, and work closely with our Clinical Directors to ensure assurance and support for all aspects of clinical services. The postholder will be a member of the Shelford Group Medical Director’s Group and work interchangeably with the new Chief Medical Officer (Development), and with a wide range of external organisations and agencies to support partnership working and collaboration, clinical pathway redesign, and representing STH on the wider stage.
As one of the most senior clinical leaders in the NHS, your expertise and leadership will be crucial in providing leadership across STH and the wider system, as well as shaping and influencing strategic direction at the national level.
We are open to talented and ambitious medical leaders who bring intellect, commitment and energy. People who have experience of working at a senior level in complex healthcare settings, with considerable focus on partnership working, collaboration and delivery, quality of care and service delivery, and a drive for innovation and improvement, alongside which, a natural empathy with our organisational values is essential:
1. Patients first: Ensure that the people we service are at the heart of all that we do.
2. Respectful: Be kind, respectful, fair and value diversity.
3. Ownership: Celebrate our successes, learn continuously and ensure we improve.
4. Unity: Work in partnership with others.
5. Deliver: Be efficient, effective and accountable for our actions.
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is a highly inclusive organisation and invites applicants from all backgrounds.
