A new opportunity has arisen within the Newcastle Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) for the position of a Clinical Trial Assistant based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The CRDC will be a new innovative team starting in April 2025 and this gives an exciting opportunity to join at the onset of its development.
We are looking to appoint an individual who has excellent communication skills, can multitask, has meticulous attention to detail and can work proactively and cohesively within this small friendly team. The post holder will support the development and implementation of clinical research trials by providing support to the team to ensure the smooth set-up and delivery of the studies across the Hub and Spokes.
* Ensure the provision of safe and effective patient care.
* Support for Clinical Trial Coordinators and Research Nurses.
* Support and contribute to the delivery of research participant care and nursing practice in an agile capacity across the Hub and Spokes.
* Contribute to the Trust’s projects and wider research delivery projects where required.
* Maintain a high standard of care and have the necessary skills such as venepuncture, ECG – or be willing to obtain these skills.
* Ensure compliance with NUTH policies and procedures and adhere to the Clinical Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice.
* Liaise with members of the Multidisciplinary Team e.g. Principal Investigators, Sub Investigators, and Pharmacists.
* Ability to plan own workload daily.
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Use NIHR/NHS systems to support in set up and delivery of clinical trials.
* Undertake training for each individual study’s electronic databases.
* Awareness and compliance of laws, guidelines and frameworks that govern clinical research.
* Attend operational meetings and assist planning of future studies.
* Stock control of study equipment and office supplies.
* As the nature of this role is agile, a valid UK Driving Licence would be desirable.
Our staff oversee over 6,500 patient contacts every day, delivering high standards of healthcare from the following sites:
* Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)
* Health Innovation Neighbourhood (on the former Newcastle General Hospital and Centre for Ageing and Vitality site)
* Newcastle Fertility Centre
* Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria
The research that will be conducted will be very diverse and will overall cover most major medical and surgical specialties with a focus on research into treatments for chronic conditions that affect the NE population. This will include treatments for obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and respiratory disease. In addition, it is expected that the CRDC will work with companies developing medical devices and diagnostics.
The post holder will play a key role in ensuring that departmental research activities are undertaken in line with current research governance regulations. This is an ideal opportunity for those working in a healthcare role who may want to develop their career and will include excellent opportunities for personal and professional development. Previous research experience is desirable but not essential as full in-house training will be provided.
* Coordinate and improve trial communication throughout Multi-Disciplinary Teams throughout the Trust
* Maintain effective communication with patients, carers and professionals to ensure service delivery
* Communicate effectively with research team and study participants and their family members, providing information about their participation in the clinical trial and the care that they will receive
* Facilitate the recruitment of research participants into low-risk research studies, which is likely to include quality of life and tissue sample collection studies
* Support the research delivery team to successfully deliver a broad-ranging portfolio of clinical trials
* Coordinate and supervise housekeeping duties and ordering of all clinical trial supplies
* Co-ordinate the collection, transfer and storage of blood/tissue samples in accordance with the Human Tissue Act 2004 as required by trial protocol
