We currently have an exciting opportunity in our greenkeeping team for a 1st Assistant Greenkeeper who will take ownership of the course conditioning for the Coronation Course.
The Coronation Course is currently undergoing a 18-hole redesign by Tom Mackenzie, with 9 holes already completed, the remaining 9-hole work will commence in October 2024, with the successful completion, much anticipated by the Membership. As part of the works, a new Toro irrigation system is also being installed.
In addition to the redesign, key focuses include woodland management and enhancing the infrastructure to enhance the overall playability of the course.

Purpose of the role:
To support the Deputy Golf Course Manager and Golf Course Manager to ensure that the day-to-day running and set-up of two 18-hole downland golf courses, driving range and wider estate is delivered at a level expected by the members of the Royal Automobile Club.
The role will work within an inspired, environmentally sustainable plan that ranges from course architecture to woodland management. Combining both supervision and direct hands on work, the 1st Assistant will work with a team and supervise a team of greenkeepers, to ensure the daily maintenance tasks are completed as communicated by the Deputy Course Manager or directly via the Course Manager.
Overview of Responsibilities:
15. The 1st Assistant Greenkeeper will provide both clear and articulate communication of daily work outcomes, provide feedback to the line manager, identify course risks and safety concerns and be able to supervise a team to maintain both morale and pride in work.
16. To assist the Course Manager / Deputy Course Manager daily with the setting of all work programmes and to inform senior management of any issues on the course, and be an integral part of the senior management team.
17. To ensure all tasks are carried out in line with the clubs health and safety policy.
18. To train/ develop/ mentor junior team members and administer training, in line with departmental SOP’s.
19. Operate equipment for fine turf maintenance programmes that ensure quality and consistency.
20. Liaise with the Deputy Course Manager, Head Gardener & Head Mechanic on the upkeep and maintenance of estate grounds and gardens.
21. Carry out fertiliser, pesticide and chemical applications in line with industry best practice.
About you:
22. Agronomic qualification – NVQ 3.
23. An active golfer.
24. Communicate with their team, members and the wider club departments in a courteous manner at all times.
25. Construction experience, particularly in the grow in of new surfaces.
26. Hold Pa1, PA2 & PA6 pesticide qualifications.
27. Experience using course equipment
28. Demonstrable experience in Greenkeeping
29. Team player
30. Good level of attention to detail
