We are looking to recruit two part-time Museum Attendants to work at Kirkcudbright Galleries. This is an exciting opportunity to help front this high-profile Gallery and create an inclusive positive experience for visitors of all ages.
Working front of house, we need reliable, trustworthy, personable and enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about providing a high standard of customer service. These active, public-facing roles will involve a range of activities including:
1. Invigilating galleries
2. Greeting and providing information to customers
3. Answering telephone and on-site queries
4. Ensuring site security and monitoring health and safety
5. Maintaining records
6. Cleaning
7. Report writing
8. Dealing with retail and ticket sales
9. Cashing up
10. Key holder duties
11. Regular weekend and bank holiday working
12. Occasional lone working
13. Some evening cover
A high level of communication and customer care skills, excellent teamwork, and experience of working in visitor services are essential. A good standard of education and some local knowledge of the area and its artistic history are desirable.
These are contracted, part-time posts and as such include paid vacation and pension provision. The core hours of work vary between summer and winter and the pay is averaged (annualised) over the year. Regular additional hours are available to cover colleagues’ vacation time and special events should the post holder wish.

The hours for these posts are worked over a 2 week rotation, with Summer Hours running from April to end of October, and Winter Hours running from end of October/ November – April.

Attendant 2:
Summer Week 1 working pattern is: Wednesdays: 11:30 – 5:30pm, Thursdays: 10-2:30pm, Fridays: 11:30-5:30pm.
Summer Week 2 working pattern is: Tuesdays: 9:30-5:30pm, Thursdays: 11:30-5:30pm, Fridays: 10-2:30pm, Saturdays: 9:30-5:30pm, Sundays: 12:30-2:45pm.
Winter Week 1 working pattern is: Thursdays: 11:30 – 4:30pm and Fridays: 11:30-4:30pm.
Winter Week 2 working pattern is: Thursdays: 11:30 – 4:30pm, Fridays: 10-2:30pm, Saturdays: 9:30-4:30pm, and Sundays: 12:30-2:45pm.
Summer Week 1 working pattern is: Wednesdays: 9:30-5:30pm, and Thursdays: 9:30-5:30pm.
Summer Week 2 working pattern is: Mondays: 9:30-5:30pm, Wednesdays: 10-2:30pm, Saturdays: 9:30-5:30pm, and Sundays: 11-5:30pm.
Winter Week 1 working pattern is: Wednesdays: 9:30-4:30pm, and Thursdays: 9:30-4:30pm.
Winter Week 2 working pattern is: Wednesdays: 10am-2:30pm, Saturdays: 11:30-4:30pm, and Sundays: 11-4:30pm.
