Property Dispute & Consumer Contract Solicitor
Location: Liverpool or Birkenhead
Job Role: Providing legal advice to clients on matters involving property disputes and consumer contract disputes.
Key Duties:
1. Advising clients on matters such as merits, prospects of success and proportionality, and carrying out an initial prospects assessment for each.
2. Interpreting the terms of Home LEI policies and ensuring matters fall within the scope of policy and advising clients appropriately.
3. Providing verbal and written advice to clients on matters of consumer/contract law and property disputes (in so far as they are covered by the LEI policy).
4. Handling a caseload of generally pre-litigated matters, collating evidence, expert reports, and details of losses sustained. Liaising with potential Defendants and bringing those cases to a conclusion.
5. Escalating more complex or litigated cases to a more specialist handler as and when necessary.
6. Providing general support and technical/legal support to the Home/LEI team on litigated and non-litigated matters as and when required.
7. Instructing Counsel if and when necessary.
8. Dealing with claims ensuring a client-focused service is provided.
9. Progressing claims in a timely manner in accordance with the CPR and SLAs in place.
10. Taking a pragmatic commercial approach to settlements and advising clients as to litigation/cost risks.
Experience/Knowledge:
1. Solicitor, Member/Fellow of CILEx with experience in property and/or consumer/contract law.
2. Good working knowledge of general legal matters and any relevant case law and/or legislation and progressing claims/disputes in a timely manner.
3. Commercially minded, able to see opportunities to optimise commercial relationships and outcomes on cases, both for the client and the firm.
4. Excellent IT skills with a sound working knowledge of Visual Files or a similar case management system and essential MS Office knowledge.
5. Excellent time management and organisational skills, with a calm and methodical approach to work, and a flexible and adaptable attitude to resolving issues.
