Job summary Consultant Interventional Neuroradiologist Department: Neuroradiology This post is to join our team of Diagnostics and Interventional Neuroradiologists who provide a mix of both on and off-site diagnostic neuroradiology provision. The team work flexibly to provide 52-week cover for imaging services and MDT meetings and contribute to the general and emergency work of the department, giving a varied and interesting practice. South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust include both The James Cook University Hospital (JCUH) on the outskirts of Middlesbrough (approx 1000 beds) and The Friarage Hospital (approx. 200 beds) in Northallerton, North Yorkshire. The JCUH is a major trauma and hyperacute stroke centre currently providing mechanical thrombectomy, 9-4 Monday-Friday. The tertiary Neurosciences Collaborative covers a large geographic area from Peterlee to the north, Thirsk to the south and Hawes to the west in the Yorkshire Dales. The Neurosciences Collaborative includes 8 neurosurgeons and 13 neurologists plus consultant cover for neurorehab and stroke. It also includes the consultant Pain team. Colleagues will be encouraged to support the ethos of service redesign with flexible working, role extension and mentoring of junior and paramedical colleagues and participate fully in the provision of diagnostic neuroradiology, stroke imaging and head and neck imaging, in collaboration with the consultants in the team. Main duties of the job General work Reporting of acute and urgent in-patient cross-sectional neuroimagingincluding hyperacute stroke imaging Reporting of routine CT and MR neuroimaging for referrals from Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neurophysiology, Neurorehabilitation, Stroke and Ophthalmology Reporting of specific brain and spine imaging referred to Neuroradiology from A&E, GPs and other consultant teams within the Trust. Reporting of CT and MRI referred from the Tees Esk Wear Valley Mental Health Trust. Providing verbal and second opinions to clinical teams within the Trust and outside the Trust for difficult brain and spine scans needing specialist opinion. Justification of planned imaging in line with agreed national and departmental protocols. Providing cover for MDTs (Brain and CNS tumour MDT, Stroke MDT and Neurology MDT) Where appropriate, provide training for the local Radiology Training Scheme Specialty Trainees and other rotating SPRs. Share with colleagues in the training, supervision and support of radiographers and including skill mix training. Provision of final opinions on diagnostic cross sectional neuro-imaging. Supervise CT and MR sessions in the Neuroradiology department Contribute to appropriate MDTs About us The job offers a 10 PA contract, which comprises of 8 direct clinical care (DCC) and can include up to a maximum of 2 supporting programme activities (SPA). If the confirmed job plan comes to the maximum 2 SPAs, then one of the SPA sessions can be taken off site. Extra DDC PAs may be available following consultation with the Clinical Director, depending on departmental and personal requirements.
