PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To act as a designated point of contact for staff, volunteers, parents/carers, children and young people at the FAW Academy to support players with their welfare and well being. The role will require understanding of how to manage welfare/safeguarding concerns and dealing with this in an appropriate manner, working with the Player Welfare and Safeguarding Team. There are two roles available - one in the North (based at Colliers Park, Wrexham) and one in the South (based at USW Sports Park, Pontypridd). You will be asked to specify which area you are applying for when submitting your application. KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY OR RESPONSIBILITY Work with others in the academy to ensure a positive child-centred environment Assist the FAW in fulfilling its responsibilities to safeguard children within the academy Act as the academy’s point of contact for staff, volunteers, parents/carers, children and young people where concerns about children’s welfare, poor practice or abuse are identified. Have a presence at training and match days, liaising with players, staff, volunteers, parents/carers, children and young people. Work closely with the Safeguarding and Player Welfare Department to ensure best safeguarding practices are always promoted and adhered to. Implement the organisation’s reporting and recording procedures supporting investigations if required. Promote the organisation’s best-practice guidance and/or code of conduct within the academy. Be a contributing member of the Player & Parent Forums Attend Safeguarding and Player Welfare team meetings Ensure appropriate confidentiality is maintained Promote inclusive and anti-discriminatory practice. NOTE : Due to the nature of this role the working hours will be predominantly evenings and weekends. PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications FAW Safeguarding Award or equivalent. Mental Health First Aid (desirable) Knowledge An understanding of Child Protection legislation and best practice. Experience of working with children in a safeguarding/welfare related role. An understanding of safeguarding processes and procedures An understanding of process and procedures to support athletes. (desirable) Ability to speak Welsh (desirable) Experience Experience in a safeguarding/welfare/education role. Experience of working with children or young people. Experience of Microsoft applications, for example Word, Excel and Outlook are essential. Experience of supporting elite athletes. (desirable) ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS The appointment of the successful candidate(s) will be subject to an Enhanced DBS for Regulated activity check and two professional / personal references, to the satisfaction of the FAW. In addition, the FAW may ask to see evidence of right to work in the UK.
