TISICS is a small management-owned business with material and processing technology that is of potential future benefit primarily to the Space and Aerospace sectors. The company designs and manufactures net shape metal and continuous silicon carbide fibre reinforced composite components compromising titanium and aluminium alloys. Our advanced materials offer significant advantages both to the Aerospace sector in reducing the weight of platforms for environmental benefit and to the Space sector with rapid growth in communications, climate and planetary exploration applications. We handle a variety of different material types.
* Fibre (Silicon Carbide, Alumina Ceramic, Carbon Coating, and Tungsten Core, plus variety of chemical and gasses involved in the manufacturing process)
* Composites with the fibre and a variety of matrix materials (Titanium, Aluminium) and tooling, which is primarily steel based.
Mechanical Engineer
The role of Mechanical Engineer is to provide mechanical design, analysis and test expertise within projects to help to develop products for the Aerospace and Space markets based on the TISICS metal matrix composite and fibre technologies. Products include but are not limited to structural components, pressure vessels, and liquid propellant tanks.
We use some novel manufacturing methods using Diffusion bonding and also including dissimilar material joining. This is a hands-on technical role performing R&D and analysis on complex materials challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Delivery of mechanical engineering work packages during projects on-time, on-cost and on-quality
* Working collaboratively with the project, production and quality teams to help deliver the mechanical design of the products, including design, analysis, verification and test through all phases of projects to ensure compliance to customer requirements
* Supporting the preparation of mechanical engineering aspects of design reviews, including documentation and data packs
* 3D CAD & 2D drawing activities, using SolidWorks or similar
* Ability to perform FEA activities and/or to liaise with FEA engineers
* Specifying and performing mechanical testing
* Supporting liaison with suppliers, customers and manufacturing/development staff
* Supervising technicians and production engineers
Qualifications
* Qualified to degree level (BEng/BSc) in mechanical engineering or similar degree
* 1-3 years industrial experience in relevant environment
* Understanding of mechanical design and analysis for components and equipment
* Understanding of inspection and testing processes gained through industrial experience
