We have a wonderful opening for an experienced midwife with expert clinical and leadership experience to join and lead the fetal medicine team.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated midwife to lead within a dynamic, fast-paced tertiary Fetal Medicine Unit at a leading teaching hospital. As the Lead Midwife for Fetal Medicine, you will take charge of managing complex fetal issues, providing effective clinical leadership and support to all members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
You will be a key and compassionate figure in supporting women and their families, enabling them to make informed decisions. Your leadership will drive patient care, ensuring that even the most complex information is conveyed with clarity and empathy.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide clinical and managerial leadership within the fetal medicine team and coordinate midwives to provide midwifery care for women during the fetal medicine pathway.
2. To provide effective clinical leadership and support to all members of the multidisciplinary team ensuring close liaison with the Lead Midwife in Screening and the Lead Sonographer.
3. To provide mentorship to midwives and students in a supportive environment for learning and development.
4. To work closely with other teams to meet local and national quality, safety and regulatory standards.
5. To sensitively support women, their families, and staff throughout the diagnosis, complex invasive tests, and termination of pregnancy for fetal abnormality.
6. The post holder will need the ability to travel between Trust and Community services.

Qualifications
* Registered Midwife
* Diploma /Degree or equivalent in Midwifery
* Counselling training
Experience
* Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of midwifery in all areas of the service with recent working within the community setting
* Evidence of leadership, management and/or team development at a clinical level.
* Robust understanding of related Guidelines and Policies and their revision
* Conversant with NMC rules governing practice
* Demonstrate awareness of clinical governance
* Involvement with clinical audit and research
* To have cared for or assisted women who have suffered a fetal loss due to IUD, SB, MTOP linked to fetal abnormalities.
Knowledge
* Aware of current research and its impact on evidence base case
* Knowledge of NMC Midwives Rules and Standards
* Knowledge of current reports/guidelines relating to Maternity Care and their implication
* Involvement in participating in the production of evidence-based policies.
* Awareness of the role of ARC, SANDS and other agencies
Skills
* Ability to carry out the full range of midwifery skills in all clinical areas
* Developed interpersonal skills
* Excellent communications skills and ability to communicate difficult and contentious messages.
