THE TEAM
We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service Prevention team as a Community Safety Advisor. The Prevention Department's aim is to prevent the occurrence of fires and other emergencies and the impacts on our communities. This essential work supports our wider vision and commitment to the health, safety, and wellbeing of the people that live, work, and visit Cumbria. We aim to achieve this by delivering various community safety activities.
THE ROLE
Being a Community Safety Advisor is a varied role working predominantly in rural areas, delivering and promoting a range of standard and targeted prevention activities. These will include delivering Home Safety visits in people’s homes; education and training in schools on fire safety; and engagement with the community to reduce the likelihood of and impact from fire, emergencies, and health-related issues.
Candidates should have experience of working with partner agencies and community safety work or relevant qualification. The role will be demanding yet rewarding and will require a flexible person who has an organised approach to work and the ability to motivate themselves.
The role involves extensive driving in Cumbria and on occasion requires some evening and weekend work.
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
The ideal candidates to join our team will have the ability to talk to a wide range of audiences: engaging them in the essential safety information and discussing the risks in an accessible way. We are looking for someone who’s friendly and compassionate and strives to achieve positive outcomes for vulnerable people and communities.
The candidate should be comfortable with lone working and able to make informed decisions based on information available. You will be part of a supportive and close team, and you will be given a robust induction and on-going training and development to help you in your role. You will also be part of an open, honest, and inclusive service that works to put our communities first.
We are dedicated to developing our workforce - if you're looking to progress in an inclusive, supportive, and dynamic fire service, we would like to hear from you!
Minimum Requirements:
**This role requires an Enhanced DBS check.**
CFRS has a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for those whose most recent employer is the Armed Forces, for Care Leavers, and for Disabled Candidates. We encourage candidates to let us know so we can provide the best support and access throughout the process.
