An Interim Finance Director is required to join an experienced and dedicated charity team in Elland, West Yorkshire. As Finance Director you will provide immediate and strategic financial leadership during a critical period. You will focus on three key priorities: cashflow management, development of a five-year financial plan, and the preparation of the annual budget. The position requires an immediate hire, whether permanent from day one, or as an interim role until a permanent candidate can start in post. The expected duration of an interim would be 2 months extendable, directly employed by the charity, or as self-employed contractor (within IR35.) Hours of work would be 15-22.5 hours per week for the interim post and up to 30 hours for the permanent post. The successful candidate will ensure the financial stability of the charity and its subsidiary, particularly in relation to the capital appeal and associated project costs. This role offers an opportunity to transition into a permanent Director of Finance position with a broader scope of responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Cash Flow Management; to oversee and manage the short- and medium-term cash flow, ensuring robust financial planning and liquidity to support operational sustainability. Provide proactive financial oversight of the capital appeal and associated build costs, ensuring accurate forecasting and financial discipline. Develop risk mitigation strategies to manage fluctuations in cash flow, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s objectives. Lead the creation of a comprehensive five-year financial plan, ensuring it supports the long-term strategic direction of the organisation. Conduct financial modelling and scenario planning to inform decision-making and sustainability strategies, aligned with financial planning with the operational objectives ensuring financial sustainability. Engage with key stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees, CEO, and Senior Leadership Team, to develop a sustainable financial strategy. Develop and oversee the preparation of the annual budget, considering financial challenges, income diversification, and cost pressures. Ensure budgets are aligned with strategic objectives while maintaining operational efficiency and value for money. Work closely with department heads to develop realistic budget forecasts and expenditure plans. Present clear financial reports to the CEO and Board, providing assurance on financial sustainability. We are looking for: Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with significant senior finance leadership experience. Proven experience in managing cash flow, financial planning, and budgeting within a complex organisation. Strong understanding of charity sector finance and UK charity regulations. Demonstrated ability to develop long-term financial strategies and risk management frameworks. Expertise in governance, compliance, financial control and leading change. Ideally, experience in a healthcare, hospice, or non-profit environment and experience in managing financial aspects of capital projects or large-scale fundraising initiatives. Skills & Attributes Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to financial leadership, with great analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions under pressure. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders, whilst working collaboratively across multiple teams and influence key decision-makers. Adaptable and proactive, with a commitment to best practices and continuous improvement.
