Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced z/OS Systems Hardware Specialist to support and maintain Mainframe Processor operations within a multi-LPAR, multi-site Sysplex environment. The role involves hardware maintenance, system upgrades, troubleshooting, and performance optimization to ensure high availability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
* Mainframe Hardware Support & Maintenance:
o Oversee the UK Mainframe Processor estate in a multi-LPAR Sysplex environment.
o Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day hardware incidents and system failures.
* Processor & Microcode Upgrades:
o Lead upgrades of IBM Mainframe Processors to the latest generations (z14, z15, z16).
o Upgrade Microcode levels on Mainframe Processors, Coupling Facilities, HMCs, and TKEs.
* System Configuration & Optimization:
o Build and activate IODF/IOCDS configurations for storage and system updates.
o Update PR/SM definitions via HMC.
* Collaboration & Risk Management:
o Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure system efficiency and reliability.
o Maintain compliance with risk management and regulatory processes.
* Out-of-Hours Support:
o Provide after-hours support for critical hardware implementations and upgrades.
Required Skills & Experience
* Extensive experience in Mainframe hardware support and configuration.
* Strong knowledge of IBM z/OS systems and tools, including:
o HMC, HCD, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, CHPID Mapping Tool, JES2.
* Hands-on experience with IBMz processor generations (z14, z15, z16).
* Sysplex and Coupling Facility expertise.
* Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
* Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a broad audience.
Preferred Skills (Not Mandatory But Advantageous)
* Automation, GDPS, Rexx, and CLIST scripting.
* OSA-ICC definition and configuration.
* Basic understanding of DWDM technology.
* Familiarity with Disk/Tape infrastructure.
Work Environment & Flexibility
* Location: Sheffield or Wakefield.
