At our site in Knaresborough, Allerton Waste Recovery Park, we are recruiting for an Anaerobic Digestion Operator. Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a series of natural biological processes whereby organic waste material – known as feedstock – is broken down by micro-organisms and converted into energy, known as biogas. The biogas is used in a combined heat and power plant to generate renewable energy. The role will be a hands-on role operating machinery on the site, managing feedstock (organic waste) throughput the process alongside assisting in plant maintenance, general upkeep and repairs. Promoting good working practices and positive relations between staff, the local community and external regulatory bodies. Salary £34,692.08 Location: Allerton Waste Recovery Park, HG5 0SD Responsibilities Safe and efficient operation of the plant during steady state, start up, shutdown and emergency situations as directed by the Operations Manager Ensure day to day compliance with all aspects of the Environmental Permit, reporting any non-compliance or incident to the Operations Manager. Work within the company’s Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental System and all relevant legislation. To be authorised under the safety rules to the level of Senior Authorised Person to apply isolation, locks and safety tags, and the preparation and issuing of safety documents. Carrying out responsibilities as defined in the companies Safety Rules and associated procedures. Contribute towards the team effort, encourage team spirit and provide assistance to others. Carry out routine plant inspections and adjustments / operations as required collecting and recording plant data. Carrying out Operational Procedures to ensure that plant is in a fit and correct state for return to service following maintenance, outage or other prolonged shutdown. Responding to first line and breakdown maintenance requirements as far as background and experience permits. Assisting maintenance functions in any such maintenance. Participating in department training and development. Writing/amending site Operational procedures, implementing changes and improvements as required ensuring all procedures are relevant and accurate. Carrying out simple analysis to ensure the plant is fully optimised. Shift logging to ensure quality defect reporting and writing along with the reviewing of operational work specifications. Able to safely operate a Counterbalance Forklift Truck, front Load mechanical shovel and grab crane. (Training will be offered to suitable candidates). Loading fermenter/dry digester with organic material. Involvement with replacing pumps, shafts and other components. Maximise the biogas yields of the fermenters and electricity produced by the engines. Management of CLO (Compost like output) to ensure ABPR is adhered to at all times. Out loading the CLO to the various off takers. Qualifications Experience working with Anaerobic Digestion. This will include a good level of practical Operational/Maintenance experience/knowledge A good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement, IOSH managing safely is preferable.
