As a Water Asset Engineer, you will work with various teams across our business and be involved in identifying network problems, undertaking root cause analysis, and developing investment solutions to mitigate risk. You will play a leading role on all operational mitigation & asset solution decisions, interfacing with stakeholders to ensure the Water Services business meets its serviceability and Measures of Success targets.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Supporting the Zonal Studies Programme Manager in delivering the AMP7 and 8 programmes of work for Discolouration and AC mains, valued at over £200m, and support the delivery of the wider business plans managed by Water Assets.
2. Having a holistic, evidence-based view of risk across the asset base, ensuring root causes of problems are correctly identified and that mitigations are in place before recommending capital intervention with a costed solution.
3. Working with the Asset Technicians and using verified risk data in Investment Manager to ensure that investment is prioritised appropriately in line with whole life costs.
4. Writing and owning business cases, board approval papers and steering group packs.
5. Acting as a Client on behalf of the business, ensure the compliance of projects against the Investment Delivery Process to deliver the most appropriate long-term solution to address the business need within the available budget.
6. Being responsible for reviewing and challenging recommendations for changes in scope or project parameters throughout the Investment Delivery Process.
7. Following the completion of investment projects ensure that an effective handover is undertaken to successfully close the project, update corporate data, and support final accounting activities and lessons learned reviews.
8. Provide regular investment case, programme and project updates throughout the lifecycle of the assigned work packages.
9. Working with Commercial teams to ensure forecasting is of a high, accurate standard and budgets are routinely monitored and adhered to.
10. Working with the Risk Team, support the review of residual risks following investment.
11. Supporting and lead on continuous improvement activities on behalf of the department.
12. Supporting the Department to develop, plan and implement future AMP plans.
13. Developing and maintaining good, consistent working relationships with all stakeholders including Operations, Capital Delivery and Alliance Partners.
14. Leading on monthly Client Meetings to ensure stakeholders are challenged and held responsible for their commitments through the Investment Delivery Process for quality, time, costs and risk parameters.

* Developers and customers in support of business needs., The working base for a successful South based candidate would be Ty Awen & base for a successful North candidate would be Kinmel Park, also with the expectation of visiting operational depots.
* This role includes hybrid working. Expected to attend an office twice a week
* The successful candidate will be an active member of the local operational standby rota.
* Car allowance will be included.
Ideally have 3 years' experience in the water industry in either an asset management, operational, capital, analytical, project management or financial role/s.
* Hold a full current UK driving licence and ability to travel as job requires.
* Knowledge and experience of the operation and management of potable water systems from source to tap, including a basic understanding of hydraulics.
* Knowledge and experience of using DCWW corporate systems i.e. Investment Manager, GIS, SAP, Watercore, etc. is desirable.
* Commercial and cost management skills - an understanding of opex, capex and water industry funding mechanisms is desirable.
* Experience of managing projects and contractors is preferred, along with an appropriate qualification.
* The ability to prioritise and manage workloads, must be able to perform under pressure with the ability to meet tight time constraints.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills
* To be able to build positive relationships with, manage and influence stakeholders.
* An ability to think holistically across the investment plan to ensure effective day to day delivery of services.
