Hugh Baird College has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Lecturer in Plastering to join our dynamic Construction Team. As a Lecturer, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment to ensure that our students achieve successful learning outcomes and progress to their chosen destinations. While previous teaching experience and/or a recognised teaching qualification are desirable, we also welcome applicants with a passion for the industry and a commitment to fostering the growth of future professionals.
You'll use your professional expertise to deliver engaging and effective teaching across our programmes up to level 3. This role caters to 16-18 year old learners, apprentices, and adult groups. Your responsibilities will encompass the entire educational spectrum, including planning and preparation, marking, day-to-day communication with students, and administration tasks such as admissions, enrolment, registration, and attendance tracking

For any new member of teaching staff, who join us direct from industry, we have a bespoke programme of support. This includes weekly support from both an ‘Off The Tools Mentor’ and an ‘Advanced Teacher Practitioner’ (ATP). Together the Off the Tools Mentor and ATP will support with the development of teaching, learning and assessment strategies, as well as supporting with navigating through the change from industry to education. In addition, we offer the opportunity to complete the Level 3 Award in Teaching in Education within the first year, followed by the opportunity to potentially progress to a Certificate in Education the following year.

Key Responsibilities & Key Tasks
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach students enrolled on a range of courses as assigned by your line manager
- Implement appropriate feedback and assessment systems to accurately check learning, adapting teaching as required to ensure learner progress.
- Operate within the Quality Assurance framework.
- Manage courses or parts of courses as required, including administration and organisation.
- Contribute to curriculum innovation, development, and implementation.
- Maintain a professional learning environment in the classroom, consistently implementing the College’s behaviour management processes as required.
- Maintain and update teaching expertise and skills to continually develop teaching practice and deliver the best outcomes for learners.
Key Tasks:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Delivering teaching and learning that motivates and inspires learners to achieve, creating curriculum intent documentation and schemes of learning.
- Developing assessments and marking students’ work in accordance with college policy, as well as providing clear, direct, and constructive verbal and written feedback.
- Supervising practical activities, workshops, and work placements as appropriate.
- Facilitating learning by selecting material and methods appropriate to student needs and course level to deliver a flexible learning program.
- Using technology, including the college’s virtual learning environment, effectively to enable independent learning at any time or place.
- Developing and using high-quality resources and teaching materials which meet course frameworks and learning outcomes.
Essential Criteria
· Possess a minimum level of relevant Level 3 vocational qualification.
· Track record of successful teaching experience across a range of levels including up to level 3.
· Recent industry-related experience relevant to the academic discipline
· Detailed knowledge of relevant course subject matter and examination and assessment requirements
· Understanding of value added and the use of progress performance measures
Experience of developing and maintaining external partnerships to enrich teaching and learning.
· Ability to provide clear, direct and constructive written and verbal feedback
· Ability to inspire, motivate and raise the aspirations of learners through high-quality teaching
